Gavilan Athletics organizes hole-in-one contest for big
bucks
GILROY – One shot for one million dollars.
The Gavilan College Athletics Department is hosting its first annual $1 million golf shootout – presented by Enterprise Rent-A-Car.
The qualifying rounds will take place June 7-8 at Eagle Ridge Golf Club in Gilroy, Coyote Creek Golf Club in Morgan Hill and at Garlic County Golf Driving Range in Gilroy between 8 a.m and 4 p.m. The set distance for the closest-to-pin qualifying round will be 165 yards for men and 150 yards for women.
The event is open to all golfers who want to try their luck at taking a shot from 125-165 yards out. The golfer closest to the pin at each location will be invited to compete in the final round – which will take place at Eagle Ridge Golf Club on June 14 at 6 p.m. with the finalists going for the big million dollar prize. All the proceeds of the contest will benefit the student-athletes at Gavilan College.
“It’s a first-time event, but we’re excited because we think it’s creative and unique,” Gavilan Athletic Director Ron Hannon said. “It’s something that we feel will become an annual thing for us, an event that can connect everyone for great cause. I hope we really give a million dollars away.”
The cost to participate is $5 per shot. Participants are encouraged to purchase multiple shots, as it will better their chances. In order to participate at Eagle Ridge and Coyote Creek Golf Clubs, you must have set tee time so golfers are encouraged to participate at the Garlic County Golf Driving Range.
In addition to the two qualifiers, the participants who make the largest cash donations to the event will also be awarded invitations to compete in the final round.
Participants should keep their eyes out for ads because they contain 2-for-1 coupons.
