Dear Editor,

Reading Saturday’s Dispatch, Cynthia Walker seems to think that Superintendent Edwin Diaz is deserting us! She also goes on to say he is a decent man and good father. That’s nice of her to say, since people like her and The Dispatch are the ones that made him leave with your great support.

I went to school in Gilroy with Edwin Diaz, and he is a good guy and a great role model. He was an asset to the community, and he will be missed and hard to replace.

The fact is after years of hate mail, abusive remarks, name calling and then the jeers from The Dispatch for him leaving, what did you expect? The man did the best he could for years until he woke up one day and said, enough is enough.

So are you all happy that he is gone? Isn’t that what the Dispatch and Cynthia Walker wanted all along? I don’t blame him one bit, his actions are justified. But are your actions just as important? Hardly.

When some like a good school supervisor, or superintendent, they support the person. No matter if they like him/her or not. As long as they do the job and do it right, not stab the guy in the back then say later that he was a nice man. Sorry Cynthia you’re a big hypocrite, but you don’t fool me.

Daniel Garcia, Gilroy

Editor’s note: For the record, the original referred to opinion item. JEERS: For the news that Superintendent Edwin Diaz plans to leave the Gilroy Unified School District mid-year for greener pastures in Pasadena. That makes the transition even more difficult, and puts the GUSD School Board, unfortunately, in a micromanagement position.
