A South Bay YMCA group – with help from an NFL Hall of Famer – dished out praise Tuesday night to a local man whose volunteer work hasn’t gone unnoticed.
Gilroy resident Tom Squeri, described as a “driving force” at the Mt. Madonna YMCA for the past decade, was presented with the Distinguished Service Award during YMCA Silicon Valley’s annual Red Triangle Dinner in San Jose, according to a YMCA press release.
The award is given each year to volunteers who have “deeply impacted the lives of kids, adults or families through several years of volunteer leadership while pursuing the YMCA mission,” according to the release.
And there to help hand off the accolades to Squeri and other volunteers was former San Francisco 49ers quarterback and Hall of Famer Steve Young, who also emceed the event.
Squeri snapped a picture with the former Super Bowl MVP after receiving his award Tuesday night.
Squeri has played an integral part in the YMCA’s relationship with the City of Morgan Hill and has helped expand YMCA after-school programs in Gilroy. He’s also been an active fundraiser and is “a committed volunteer” on behalf of the organization, according to the release.
