The Mustangs dropped to 4-4 overall with a 9-6 loss to San Jose’s James Lick High Wednesday at home. But head coach Steve Jackson is confident his varsity team, which features three freshmen and four sophomores, will improve.
“Badminton’s a tough sport to get real good at,” Jackson said. “These kids are going to be great.”
The Mustangs had to forfeit the No. 1 girls’ singles match because their top player, senior Alyssa Perez, was ill.
“Today’s loss was tough,” Jackson said. “But we should have a very good chance the next time we meet them because a few of our matches today could have gone our way with a little more luck. We only lost one or two matches where our guys were out-matched by their opponent’s experience and skills.”
The ‘Stangs next face Sobrato at home on April 12.
