Gilroy – Ken and Rosemary Curry waited in a line that stretched from the tiny booth offering free garlic ice cream samples all the way to the center of the grounds where the craft stands were located.
But the long line didn’t matter. Ken has been waiting for this moment for 10 years.
The Currys’ son and daughter-in-law flew them out from Henderson, Nev., just so Ken could get his hands on some garlic ice cream. This was their first time at the Garlic Festival.
“I tried it for the first time at a restaurant in Las Vegas and I loved it, but the restaurant went out of business,” he said. “That was 10 years ago, and I’ve never been able to find it again.”
When the Currys finally got to the front of the line, Ken walked away with a cone in both hands. He took his first lick, smiled and nodded.
“Just as good as I remember,” he said.
