A senior beauty pageant, a holy stir in Hollister, and punk rock. God I love public access. I just watched three pieces we recently received from our very own local producers. Not-so-perfect camera shots and all, this was a very gratifying moment. You aren’t going to see these shows back to back on NBC.

Fannie Curro, a Hollister beauty queen, recently edited her footage of the 2002 Ms. Senior America Pageant where she was an award-winning participant. She credits her winning attitude and positive outlook on life to her success. Fannie intros the video by describing the particulars of the pageant, and information about Ms. Senior America 2003. She also tempts the crowd to watch on by not revealing how she placed in the competition. I will let you know that she does a stunning number to the song “La Bamba.” Go Fannie!! Catch the “Age of Elegance” Beauty Pageant premiere on Sunday, April 13 at 7:30 p.m. Channel 20.

Also featured on our channels this week is the long awaited video, Holy Stir in Hollister, documenting an event for New Generation Youth Ministries. Hosted by the dynamic J-Red, the show features young musicians, dancers, and singers from all over the area. The four young girls who make up the dance group “4x Crazy for Christ” perform, as well as the hip hop girls in New Breed. The crowd was definitely getting into it. When the camera panned to the audience, not many were sitting.

The trio (minus one who was in school!) F.A.R. showed off their vocal chords during Holy Stir, as did Chris and Chubby, who’ve released a CD called Transition. These guys exhibited great talent and passion for their music. Again, it didn’t appear that many people could sit still.

Kudos to Holly McWhinnie and her daughter Tiffany for producing this challenging video. Putting together an hour-long show as your first CMAP editing project is no easy task, but they persevered; and now our viewers get to benefit from all the hard work. Good job you guys!! Catch Holy Stir this Saturday, April 12 at 5 p.m., Channel 20.

Finally, I watched a homemade music video that took me on a sentimental journey. With one distorted strum, I found myself back in the days of San Francisco punk rock, complete with mosh pits, piercings and obvious angst. 5 Minutes to Freedom, a group of young musicians from the area, star in their very own music video here at CMAP. Producers Tomas Carillo and Scott Denman captured candid moments with the band, clips of live performances, and scripted segments to create a good ol‚ fashioned punk rock music video. It’s reminiscent of Me First and the Gimme Gimmes, if you follow the SF music scene. Catch “When I’m Gone” on Channel 20 this Monday, April 14, 9:55 p.m.
