The Iron Thugs team from Net Fitness in Gilroy recently competed in the World Power Lifting Competition in Las Vegas, NV.
Five of the local competitors won world titles – Al Tortorelli dead lifted 617 pounds, Ted Ornduff bench pressed 451 and dead lifted 518; Tina Riley benched 248; Adolfo Davila benched 507; and Larry Esquivel dead lifted 363. Riley and Davila also set state records.
Others who placed were Joaquin Perez, seventh with a bench press of 418 and sixth with a dead lift of 429; Richard Pichardo, 10th with a bench of 402; Apolonio Jauregui, sixth with a bench of 424; Larry Orlando, third with a bench of 413; Danny Russo, second with a bench press of 402; and Gary Stevens, third with a bench of 424 and fourth with a dead lift of 528. Russo’s bench was a state record.
