MONTEREY – In Saturday’s second game of the Monterey Peninsula College Tournament, the Gavilan College men’s basketball team battled a big, quick Solano squad to the end, falling 64-59.

“While the result was not in our favor, I am proud of my team’s effort,” said head coach Chris Shoemaker, whose squad opened the tournament with a 62-58 win over Sierra College.

The leading scorers for the Rams were freshman Jody McAlpine (team-high 16), freshman Maurice Davis (12 points), sophomore Jimmy Herrera (10 points), and Steve Silacci (10 points).

On the horizon, Gavilan will play host Dec. 11 to College of the Siskiyous before competing in the Mendocino Tournament from Dec. 13 to Dec. 15.
