Gilroy – Resolution of whether three Gilroy High transfers are eligible to play basketball for the Mustangs will come Dec. 1.

GHS athletic director Jack Daley confirmed that the school was notified by e-mail from Nancy Lazenby-Blaser that a hearing will be held at 10:30am that day in the Central Coast Section office in South San Jose. The three student-athletes in question are Spencer Ford and Lorenzo Dobson, who attended Milpitas High last year, and Javin Charlot, who attended Oak Grove.

“Anybody who has any relevant or pertinent information is welcome to attend,” said Daley, who received the e-mail late Thursday after he had left the athletic office.

Daley expects school personnel from Milpitas and Oak Grove to attend, as well as the three players and their parents.

Ford, Dobson and Carlot will continue to practice with the team, but Daley said his suggestion is that they not play in any games until the situation is resolved.

That would affect the season opener Nov. 28 against Valley Christian and the second game Nov. 30 in the first round of the Aptos Tourney.

GHS boys’ basketball coach Bud Ogden agreed with Daley, noting, “It’s one of those things I just can’t look beyond tomorrow.”

Daley said he anticipates that Dobson and Carlot will be ruled eligible, and that they will be able to play Dec. 1 in the second round of the Aptos Tourney. He admitted he was uncertain about Ford.

The families of Dobson and Carlot moved into homes in Gilroy. School personnel have already done home visitations to the residences of Dobson and Carlot. Ford’s situation is different since he was granted an interdistrict transfer.

If nothing else, the ruling Dec. 1 will bring closure to an issue that has been hanging over the team since even before practice began Nov. 1.
