Child OK after accident
Gilroy – A 6-year-old child was struck by a vehicle on Third Street near Santa Barbara Drive, shortly after 1pm Saturday. The child was struck after darting out into the street in front of a vehicle, and was taken to a nearby hospital, treated and released, police said. There were no arrests or citations made and no indications of speeding.
Chaos car wash raises funds for trip
Gilroy – Support the Gilroy Chaos Sports Organization Girl’s Fast Pitch Softball team, which will raise money to get to the 2006 Fall Classic Tournament in Las Vegas, Nevada, by holding a car wash from 8am to 4pm Saturday, Sept. 2 at Jim’s Auto, 298 First St. The cost is $5 for small cars and $10 for trucks, vans, and Sport Utility Vehicles. Any other donations are greatly appreciated.

Registration open for youth baseball
Morgan Hill – The Mt. Madonna YMCA is accepting registrations for youth t-ball for ages 2 through 10. The season runs from Sept. 16 to Nov. 11 and is played Saturdays in Morgan Hill. They are also looking for volunteer coaches. Financial aid is available. Texas Hold ‘Em Showdown
Gilroy – Register now for the 2nd annual End of Summer No Limit Texas Hold ‘Em Showdown that will be held at 10am Saturday, Aug. 26 at the Gilroy Senior Center. The event offers teams of four players an opportunity to play Texas Hold ‘Em, with all proceeds going to city youth, teen and senior programs. Persons 18 and older are eligible to play. Team registration is $60. Register at the Gilroy Community Services Department.

Equestrian geology ride
Gilroy – Join the Santa Clara County Parks Mounted Ranger Unit on a ride through the hills to explore geological features at Coyote-Harvey Bear Ranch County Park Saturday, Aug. 26, from 9:30 to 11am. Ride leaves from Roop Road staging area at 9:30am sharp. Reservation required, no horse rentals are available, must bring your own horse and equipment.

Mount Madonna Challenge
Gilroy – The South Valley Symphony’s 31st annual running of the Mount Madonna Challenge 6K walk and race and 12K race to be held at the Mount Madonna County Park will be on Sunday, Aug. 27.
Runners will gather at the Sprig Lake picnic area at the base of the park on Highway 152. The 6K walk and run event will commence at 8:30am sharp followed by the 12K run at 9am. The 6K loop course has an elevation gain of 700 feet whereas the 12K loop course has an elevation gain of 1200 feet.Â
