With the Northern California Little League Softball Championship on the line, the 11-year-old Little League Softball All-Stars just couldn’t avenge a previous loss to the Manteca All-City All-Stars Tuesday in Antioch.

All-City followed up its 5-1 win Monday over Gilroy with an 8-4 victory in the championship.

“We had some players out of position and lost one of our pitchers,” said Gilroy manager Bryan Rogers.

Gilroy, which had Sarah Ordaz in the circle for five innings, never led in the game.

Amber Gamboa paced Gilroy’s hitters with an RBI triple. Randi Rogers (RBI), Ashley Williams (RBI) and Aly Olvera all had base hits.

Defensively, Olvera made solid plays in the outfield.

Gilroy Gator Trio Has Good Showing at Junior Olympics

Three Gilroy Gator swimmers – Brittney and Eddie Malick and Maegan Collett – swam to success earlier this month at the Adam Szmidt Memorial Pacific Swimming Long Course Junior Olympics.

Competing in the Girls 15-16 division, Collett swam a time of 1:13.42 in the 100-meter fly. She also placed 24th out of 75 swimmers in the 100-meter backstroke, clocking a 1:16.26.

Eddie Malick was the highest-placing Gator, going top 10 and taking eighth in the 1500-meter freestyle with a time of 19:26.60. He also finished the 800-free in 10:07.7.

In the Girls 10 and under division, Brittney Malick swam personal bests in the 200-meter freestyle (2:50.81) and the 100-meter butterfly (1:35.25). Her time in the 100-meter butterfly was 2.5 seconds faster than the swimmer’s previous personal best.
