Gilroy’s girls’ volleyball team took a step up in class on Tuesday.

The final result was obvious, but coach Sue Grogan wasn’t complaining about the 25-10, 25-11, 25-16 loss at Presentation.

“They have deep roots in volleyball,” Grogan said of the Panthers, who already own a victory this season over San Benito. “They have an incredible program up there. It was good experience for us.”

Grogan asked for improvement throughout the contest, and she got it as the Mustangs bettered their point total each game. They stayed with the Panthers during the third game before the home team finished strong to complete the sweep.

Gilroy (2-1) competes at the St. Ignatius Tournament Saturday in San Francisco.
