Dear EDITOR:
I want to thank The Dispatch for printing my rebuttal of Ray Gilmore’s letter criticizing coverage of Florence Trimble.
Frankly, I had completed my written praise regarding Gilroy’s most outstanding citizen, and had moved on to other topics – until Ray’s letter to the editor triggered such a response in everyone around me.
As one person said to me: “I wonder what HIS obituary will read like someday?” Otmar Silberstein, of the SV Unitarian Fellowship, wrote me this: Dear Kat: “Thanks for your letter to the editor – you’re absolutely right.” From Terri Faus (one of Gilroy’s finest elementary school teachers): “She’s the closest to Mother Teresa we’ll ever see.” And as Dina Campeau of Morgan Hill put it: “This may sound silly, but how I felt in her presence is how I suspect I might have felt in the presence of Mother Teresa: a call to humble service of others, and inspiration to become a better human being. She is a living legend at the Emergency Housing Consortium, and we never tire of reading about her.”
Many feel what is expressed in the words of my friend Susan: “Of course, I cried when I heard of her passing, but only because the world is a sadder place without her. I can just imagine how the angels sang when our Lord embraced her and welcomed her into His Kingdom! I can actually picture Florence’s face as she looked at Jesus for the first time!! As far as angels go, they CERTAINLY are among us … in the guise of little children as well as beautiful people such as Florence. How the angels in Heaven must be dancing with her!”
Okay, Mr. Gilmore, you’ll be relieved to know that I’m all done now – unless you have any more complaints to lodge …
Kat Teraji, Gilroy
