90.
Mary Valine Fernandes died on Sunday, Oct. 26, at the age of 90.
Mary was born in Hanford and raised in the Tulare area. She went to Surprise School and graduated from Tulare Union in 1931. She married Joe V. Fernandes Jr. and they had two children. Joe farmed and Mary was a seamstress and artist.
Joe died in September of 1997. A grandson, Aaron Joseph also preceded her in death.
She is survived by her brothers and her sisters-in-law, Carlo and Alice Valine and Jack and Mamie Valine; her sister, Rose Stubbs; sons, Maurice and Carl Fernandes, of Visalia; daughters, Geraldine (Gerry) Fernandes O’Day, of Morgan Hill, and Valerie Sullivan, of Garden Grove; grandchildren, Sean and Michele O’Day, Hans and Shelly O’Day Huisman, Dane Fernandes, Chad and Rachel Fernandes and Kylie Fernandes; and great-grandchildren, Mallary and Dakota O’Day and Kainoa and Malia Fernandes, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews and friends.
Mary was a very active, creative person who was forever young. She was an extraordinary seamstress and a local artist of some renown. She loved gardening and playing bridge. She was a very giving person and will be missed by all who knew her.
A graveside service for Mrs. Fernandes will be held at Old Tulare Cemetery, Blackstone Avenue, Tulare, on Monday at 1:30 p.m. Gathering for family and friends will commence at the Agricenter following the services.
