U8 Girls
White Lightning 2, Cheetahs 2
–The Cheetahs pulled ahead in the first half with goals by Gina Rodriguez and Andrea Kovach. Late in the half, White Lightning rallied with Cristyn Simpson finding the back of the net. The Lightning followed with another goal early in the second half from Emma Leach. Both teams put the clamps down on the defensive side as the game ended in a tie. Goalies Emma Morley of the Cheetahs and Kiara Santamaria of White Lightning were strong in net.
U10 Boys
Garcia’s Party Supply Gators 5, Raging Dragons 0
–Garcia’s Party Supply Gators were out to an early lead on left wing Kevin Jones’ goal to the far post. Within a few minutes, halfback Greg Spellman executed great ball control and got a pass off to teammate Leo Melendez – who was able to fire off a quick shot and goal. Late in the first half, Spencer Smith intercepted the ball at midfield and was able to quickly bring it all the way downfield and find the back of the net for the Gators’ third goal. In the second half, Kevin Jones centered the ball to teammate Brook Oneto – who was able to speed through the Dragon defense and score. Melendez, a halfback, was able to gather the ball, struggle through the Dragons, and finish off the scoring for the Gators. The backfield of Josh Kardos, Conner Morales, Troy Sharvet, and Diego Torres combined for the shutout.
U10 Girls
Dr. Smith’s Red Demons 4, Blue Cheetahs 0
–Dr. Smith’s Red Demons finished up their season with a 4-0 shutout over the Blue Cheetahs. Both the offense and defense played well in the wet and slippery conditions. Goalies Alex Rangel (first half) and Alli Unger (second half) saw little action in the goal box with the Demons attack keeping the pressure on. Giordan Rojas scored first for the Demons after constant attacks from forwards Lauren Block, Kate Wheat, Monique Kerstens and Jessica Brager. Unger scored next off a well-placed pass from teammate Lauren Block. In the second half, Ashley McDermott continued applying the pressure to the Cheetahs and Jennifer Velasquez generated several scoring chances. Francesca Comin scored the Demons’ first goal of the second half when her kick was so strong the goalie could not control it. The final Demon strike came from Briana Velasquez after a strong drive up the field.
U14 Boys
Timberwolves 1, Los Gatos Hurricane 1
–The Timberwolves generated several scoring opportunities in the tightly contested match-up that went scoreless until Tyler Hill netted his first career goal to put Gilroy ahead by one. With time running out, the Hurricane took a corner kick – which was inadvertently put into the net by the Wolves defense. Netminder Tim Sterner was outstanding in goal and has continued to progress with each game.
U14 Girls
Rambunctious Red 0, Almaden Wild Things 1
–Rambunctious Red midfielder Erin Chan showed off her ball-handling skills, weaving her way through traffic, and played both ends of the field. Hannah Fioro debuted as forward and was very aggressive in supporting the attack. Carissa Pierotti shined as second-half goalie, sacrificing her body repeatedly to stop seven shots.
Rambunctious Red 1, Hot Shots 6
–Audra Robinson, Erin Chan, Christine Camacho, and Jennifer Rose fought to score and keep the Hot Shots from the Red zone, but they fell behind 2-0 at the end of the first half. Goalie Samantha Saenz stopped three Hot Shots’ scoring chances and kept her team in the game. During the second half, Brandie Rodriguez scored the only goal for the Rambunctious Red with Kaitlin Muraoka assisting. The Reds fought hard to mount an attack, but the Hot Shot offense netted four more goals to put the game out of reach.
