South Valley finishes with four champs, three runners-up, five
thirds, and one fourth
SAN JOSE – South Valley Middle School’s varsity wrestling team attended the California Shooters Wrestling Association’s Tournament of Champions on Saturday at Mt. Pleasant Middle School in San Jose.

Participating schools and clubs came from Reno, Nevada, Vacaville, Bakersfield, Selma, several areas of Southern California and Santa Clara County. But the Tigers rose to the top again – taking first place as a team with 159 points over the second place team from Jepson Middle School in Vacaville with 48 points and third-place Davis Middle School with 35 points.

Contributing to the team’s win were four champions, three runners-up, five third placers and one fourth-place finisher.

Champions included Ethan Ogle at 110 pounds, Damien Rodriguez at 145 pounds, Hunter Collins at 165 pounds, and Jeremy Sabla at heavyweight.

Second placers included Frank Gonzalez at 105 pounds, Jason Romesberg at 125 pounds and John Griffall at 155 pounds.

Third placers included Rodney Balajadia at 80 pounds, Jon Ramirez at 85 pounds, Mike Penyaczek at 120 pounds, Jacob Dexter at 135 pounds and Fabian Loredo at 175 pounds. Finishing in fourth place was Justin Ochoa at 70 pounds.

The Tigers’ next dual match will be held in the school cafeteria against Bernal on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. followed by an away matches against Valley Christian and Bret Harte the week after Thanksgiving.
