Rock ‘n’ Roll Reunion
GILROY – Don’t miss “Rock ‘n’ Roll Reunion,” a singing and dancing tribute to the ’50s and ’60s. The show is a presen-tation of John Bisceglie and the City of Gilroy Com-munity Services Depart-ment.
The annual Children’s Summer Theater production will take place beginning Friday, Aug. 8, and run through Sunday, Aug. 23, at the Gilroy High School Theater, 750 W. 10th St.
Showtimes are Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at 7:30. Sunday matinees are at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 each, and proceeds benefit Kids Discover Art 2004. Details: 846-8836.
Dust off your saddle shoes
GILROY – The final concert in the free Summer Concert Series is Sunday, Aug. 10, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Christmas Hill Park amphitheater. Concert goers can dust off their saddle shoes and penny loafers and enjoy a trip down memory lane with The Corvairs, who will feature tunes from the ’50s and ’60s.

Wise Monkey plays

Make a furry friend
GILROY – The Friends of San Martin Animal Shelter (FOSMAS) need help finding loving families for over 300 homeless companion animals currently at the Shelter and in foster homes. Come to the FOSMAS petfair on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 16 and 17 from noon to 5 p.m. held at Our Pet Shop, 705 First St. Adopt a pet, make a donation to cover spay/neuter, food and litter expenses or sign-up to volunteer for the shelter. Bridge round robin tourney
GILROY – Gilroy Assistance League (GAL) is inviting bridge players to participate in their Round Robin tournament. The Bridge Round Robin involves five games played monthly from October to March, excluding December. The cost is $25 and all funds benefit children in South County.

GILROY – The South Valley Business Showcase will debut on Wednesday, Sept. 10, from 1 to 7 p.m. at the Historic Strand Theater, 7588 Monterey St.
“It’s Showtime” will feature the latest in products and services to thousands of potential customers under one roof. A “mixer” will also feature samplings of local restaurants and wineries. All booths cost $350, $500 for non-Gilroy Chamber members.
For additional exposure, four sponsorship levels are available: Balcony Level II $100, Balcony Level I $350, Mezzanine Level $750 and Orchestra Level $1,500.

Season of symphony sounds
GILROY – South Valley Symphony has announced its concert schedule for the 2003-04 season.
• The symphony is kicking off its 30th season with a concert on Oct. 11 at 7:30 p.m., featuring operatic arias from “La Traviata” and “Rigoletto” by Guiseppe Verdi sung by Gilroy resident soprano Karen McConachin and baritone Michael Morris.
• A concert on Dec. 14 at 4 p.m. will feature Phil Robb and the Gavilan College Concert Choir in a performance of the “Gloria” by Vivaldi. The night will also showcase the premier performance of a selection called “South Valley Fanfare” by South Valley Symphony Music Director and Conductor Henry Mollicone.
• A family concert will be on Feb. 7 at 2 p.m.
• A celebration of solo artists from the orchestra will be April 3 at 7:30 p.m. Artists will include flautist Patricia Chambers and viola player Scott Spangler performing music by Donizetti, Mandel and Copland.
• A performance on May 22 at 7:30 p.m. will feature music of Spanish traditions. Arrangements are currently under way to include a mariachi band for this concert.
• A sixth concert will feature local artists for a jazz and blues presentation. A date and time haven’t been announced.

GILROY – Gavilan College students who are at least 18 years of age may register for fall classes on the following dates.
• Gilroy main campus, 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd.: Register through Aug. 15, Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Fridays from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
• Morgan Hill and Hollister: Register through Aug. 15, on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday from 8:30 a .m. to noon, 1 to 3 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., and Friday 8:30 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m.
• High school students may now register as contract students. Fall semester starts Tuesday, Aug. 19.

Hangin’ with the MRU
GILROY – Meet the Mounted Ranger Unit with Coyote Lake Ranger Griggs on Saturday, Aug. 16, from 8 to 9 p.m. Learn what it takes to be a Ranger who rides horses. Participants will also get to roast marshmallows while listening to a spooky horse story.

Saving for long-term care
GILROY – Roberta Jones, an Edward Jones investment representative in Gilroy, will host a free program for individuals seeking to protect themselves from rising care costs.
The event will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 12, at 5 p.m. at the Edward Jones office at 7877 Wren Ave., Suite A, in Gilroy. The office is located just South of First Street near the intersection of First Street and Wren Avenue.
During this one-hour event, Edward Jones experts will explore the benefits and limitations of Medicare and Medicaid as well as the differences between health and long-term care insurance. An expert on long-term care will be present to answer questions following the broadcast.
This free event is presented at Edward Jones branch offices nationwide via the firm’s private satellite network. Refreshments will be served.

A little bit of magic
MORGAN HILL – Magic Mike’s fun house will be at the Morgan Hill Community Center on Friday, Aug. 8, at 3 and 7 p.m. The show is a mix of magic, ventriloquism and other entertaining acts. Aiding Magic Mike will be his assistants the Magic Genii and Chiquy Boom.
Experience the world of illusion with a master of slight of hand.

Tickets for ‘Blithe Spirit’
MORGAN HILL – South Valley Civic Theatre presents “Blithe Spirit,” a farce in three acts. Performances begin Friday, Aug. 22, running Friday and Saturday evenings at 8 p.m. through Sept. 13. There will be matinee performances at 2 p.m. on Aug. 31 and Sept. 7. The play will be performed at the Morgan Hill Community Playhouse, corner of Dunne Avenue and Monterey. Free movie under the stars
MORGAN HILL – The Chamber of Commerce will host its second annual “Movie Night Under the Stars” at the Morgan Hill Community and Cultural Center on Saturday, Sept. 6, at dusk.
The free event will begin at 4 p.m. with a family fun fest featuring dance, martial arts and gymnastics demonstrations. Food, microbrew beers and local wines will be available. Kids’ activities including a three-story slide, jump house and crafts will also be on hand.
The movie, “The Sandlot”, is rated PG and will be projected on an outdoor screen at dusk. The Community and Cultural Center is at Monterey and Dunne Avenue at 17000 Monterey Road in the downtown Morgan Hill.
