Hospital in Hollister. He was 75.
Richard Ray Castro passed away on Tuesday at Hazel Hawkins Hospital in Hollister. He was 75.

While attending San Benito High School, he set a record in the 100 yard dash which has withstood many years of challenge. During World War II, he served with the Merchant Marines. He also served in the American Legion Post of Hollister. He was a member of the Italian Catholic Federation of Hollister and the American Motorcycle Association. He was also an avid hunter and fisherman. He worked as a distributor with Castro Beverage Company then went to the Sierra Water Company for 25 years.

He is survived by his wife Frances B. Castro, son Donald R. Castro and sister Marilyn Castro all of Hollister, stepson Jim Zazueta of Susanville, stepdaughter Ruth Ann Beelaard of Hollister, grandchildren Randy Burgess Jr. and Richard LePaine, James, Michael, Scott and Kyline Zazueta, Nicole Beelaard-Posadas, Andrew Beelaard and six great-grandchildren.

Castro was preceded in death by daughter Diane Burgess, brother Gene Castro, parents Ray and Ann Castro, and many nieces and nephews.

Arrangements have been made for private cremation through Grunnagle Ament Nelson Crematory. Friends are invited to attend at memorial mass on Monday at 10 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church in Hollister. Inurnment will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Donations are preferred to the VNA c/o the mortuary chapel.
