MORGAN HILL – Just in time for the Fourth of July weekend, Anderson Lake County Park will open to visitors on Friday with a temporary boat-launch ramp.
Santa Clara County Parks and Recreation will not require boat-launch reservations, as is the normal procedure.
The temporary boat-launch ramp will allow as many as two boats to launch at a time, with a sidewalk. Visitors are encouraged to wear water shoes when using the ramp, because it is constructed of wire mesh and is uncomfortable for bare feet.
Additionally, visitors must use MTBE-free fuel, which can be purchased from any Union 76 gas station. A gas receipt must be presented upon entering the park. The temporary launch ramp will function until the permanent four-lane launch ramp can be constructed in the fall.
Anderson Lake County Park, located east of Morgan Hill, is the site of Santa Clara County’s largest reservoir.

Operation: Clean Slate a community success
SAN JOSE – The Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office launched a Community Service Warrant Sweep operation last weekend at its headquarters in San Jose that cleared 40 outstanding warrants, generating just under $60,000 in revenues for the county.
Included in the 40 outstanding warrants were 28 for persons cited and released with a new court date, and three persons who went to jail on No-Bail warrants. Some of these arrived with multiple warrants. Most of the warrants were traffic related, but a few of them were for misdemeanor violations. Details:

Car on fire after crash
MORGAN HILL – Two people were sent to the hospital Tuesday morning when a car struck another in a collision on Monterey Highway just past California Avenue in San Martin.
The accident occurred when Jonathan Cruz Beleze, 81, of Gilroy, stopped his red Chevy Corsica in the fast lane, intending to make a U-turn. Then, a 2003 Dodge Neon, driven by Wenhuei K. Ho, 62, of Worthington, Ohio, came around the corner. She was unable to stop in time and collided with Beleze, the California Highway Patrol said.
Beleze’s car received major damage to the rear section. The Dodge suffered major damage to the front, causing the engine to catch fire.
People passing by saw the car and ran over to aid the woman who was gathering up paperwork out of the car.
“I pulled over and there’s a women sitting in the car gathering all of her belongings,” said Donna Brodsky, who came upon the accident. “I ran over to the car and another gentleman ran up behind me. We both yelled at her to get out of her car, but she wouldn’t get out.”
Brodsky and the other man got the woman out of the car and across the street. The fire was put out by an off-duty firefighter.
CHP is still investigating the crash.
