Morgan Hill – Gavilan College Choir will be presenting their Spring Concert “An Evening of American Composers” on Thursday, May 22, at Advent Lutheran Church, 16870 Murphy Ave. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free to the public. The choir will be singing music by Aaron Copland, Samuel Barber, Jester Hairston and many other familiar composers and music. There will be guest performances by soprano Karen McConachie from Rochester Conservatory of Music in Michigan, pianist Ruth Winter and others. The 50-voice choir is under the direction of Phillip Robb.
‘Tip-A-Cop’ at Chevys
GILROY – The Hollister-Gilroy area of the California Highway Patrol is having a “Tip-A-Cop” at Chevys Restaurant, 8440 Murray Ave., on Thursday, May 22. The event is a fund raiser for Special Olympics of Northern California. The event will take place from 4 to 9 p.m. Officers will assist servers and solicit “tips” as donations for Special Olympics in addition to those given to the regular servers. The donations go to support the costs of uniforms, competitions and training expenses of all Special Olympians in the Northern California region.

Winemakers’ dinner
GILROY – Welcome the summer season with a winemaker’s dinner featuring the wines of La Filice Winery and Tolosa Vineyards, to be held Saturday, May 24, at Eagle Ridge Golf Club. Executive Chef Clinton Kaleikini is planning a special menu to highlight the La Filice and Tolosa wines of Winemaker Ed Filice, who will be available to comment on the wines and answer questions concerning pairing wine with food, cooking with wine and the artisanal approach to winemaking. Play in golf tourney
GILROY – Gilroy Ballistik, a boys 13 and under traveling baseball team will be holding their first annual Golf Tournament on Saturday, July 19, at the Gilroy Golf Course. The cost is $80 per player which includes a shared golf cart, barbecue dinner, prizes and raffle gifts. They are also looking for companies and individuals to sponsor specific Tee’s. Relay for life
GILROY – The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life will be held from Saturday, June 21, at 10 a.m. to Sunday, June 22, at 10 a.m., at the Christmas Hill Ranch Site. This event raises money for cancer research, education, advocacy and service. Walk, run, camp out, eat, cheer, dance, make friends and have fun. Reduce teen drug use
GILROY – Community Solutions is offering the final workshop in a series called Families That Care. Parents will learn how to strengthen their bonds with their children and reduce the risk that their children will use drugs. The five-week program is provided free of charge to all parents with children ages 8 to 14. A Gilroy workshop will be held on Wednesday, May 28, at 9 a.m. The workshops are designed for all types of families and are conducted in English and Spanish. Childcare and refreshments are provided. Memorial Weekend at Coe Park
MORGAN HILL – Henry Coe park has a weekend full of activities planned for Memorial Day weekend. On Saturday, May 24, at 10 a.m. take a discovery hike. Don Savant will be leading this strenuous 10-mile loop hike to China Hole, which is a great place to swim. Bring snacks, lunch, lots of water and a swimming suit if you want to cool off at China Hole. At 8 p.m., the evening program will begin on “The Birds of Coe Park.” Barbara Bessey and Kevin Gilmartin will help you learn how to identify the birds of Coe Park by sight and by sound. On Sunday, May 25, at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. there will be wildflower walks. The evening program on “Flowers and Critters” will begin at 8 p.m. Don Savant will guide you through the wonderful world of interesting plants and animals found in Coe Park.
