Dear Editor:

I usually agree with Bill O’Rielly in his writing about 98 percent of the time. But on the subject of the “all-white prom,” his trolly got off its track. Any correlation of blacks in the Iraqi War and exclusion of a black student from an all-white prom is like comparing oranges to cactus.

Our Constitution in its design and intent is to protect the individual’s rights from government infringement of those rights. In the Bill of Rights our Creator gave us the right to Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness. Those dancers at the white prom were merely exercising their right to the pursuit of happiness.

O’Rielly wants to violate the Constitutional rights of those white high schoolers at the prom by having government make them accept a black student into their society. O’Rielly seeks government force, he calls the high school principal, the superintendent, the state governor for help in forcing his prejudice upon those teenagers.

I’d like to ask O’Rielly if he has ever seen robins flocking with blackbirds? It is a fundamental law of nature that birds of a feather flock together.

O’Rielly jumps to the conclusion that the 17-year-old black student was excluded because of the color of his skin – it’s a simplistic conclusion, there may be many other pertinent factors unknown to O’Rielly.

I’m all for desegregation of the races. Desegregation was long overdue and necessary for harmony in our society. I do not approve of forced integration as O’Rielly advocated when calling upon the government to interfere with those teenagers exercising their freedom of association among fellow students. I suggest O’Rielly read the Bible in the book of Luke, Chapter 14, verses eight though 10. Maybe he’ll learn a thing or two.
