I must say, it’s great to see local faces on the channels more and more. If you haven’t caught it yet, the Gilroy Foundation Awards Presentation will be repeating on channel 20 Friday night at 8:30, and Saturday afternoon at 3. Over a dozen organizations including the Gilroy Family Resource Center, Theater Angels Art League and Gilroy Gang Task Force were rewarded with grant funds to implement programs, or continue valuable services these agencies offer. This 30 minute presentation will no doubt be repeating next week as well. Check out Web site for additional airtimes: www.mycmap.org.

CMAP recently covered the San Benito County Hispanic Chamber Luncheon, which featured a number of representatives from Citizens for Responsible Growth. Chamber President Robert Ornales introduced the event as an informational presentation, not a debate. The format allowed for guests at the luncheon to submit questions to the presenters after they made their cases on the initiative. Tune into channel 20 this Saturday at 5 p.m. to catch the coverage.

South Valley Sounds is on the air! And while I certainly encourage community members to catch John Garcia live at the Strand on Friday, you can also catch him on South Valley Sounds Friday night at 9., or Saturday night at 8, on channel 20. Dave Barrett and John Garcia delivered a first class performance on the show. Our camera people and control room crew couldn’t sit still. Their music just makes you want to move!

Keep your eyes open for coverage of both the Gilroy Memorial Day Parade and the Hollister Veterans Building Re-Dedication Ceremony in weeks to come. CMAP volunteers will be at both events for our COVER 3 program, where an event is covered once a month in each of the three cities we serve: Gilroy, Hollister and San Juan Bautista. The Gilroy Memorial Day coverage will include fly-over footage of Gilroy, the ceremony at Gavilan Hills Cemetery in the morning, as well as coverage of the parade itself. Staff Producer W. Clay will have roving cameras throughout the day catching the activity. Two of our volunteers will be covering the Hollister Vets Building Ceremony, which will eventually be edited together with interviews of city folks who were instrumental in the rebuilding process.

Finally, catch GAV-TV’s Table Talk on Channel 18, Monday through Friday, at noon and 6 p.m. The show features interviews with students and faculty about some of the innovative programs happening on campus, as well as campus news with PIO Jan Bernstein-Chargin, and Gavilan student Ashley Miller. The show also highlights events that will be taking place on campus, including the South Valley Symphony, STAR TV and Theater productions like “MacBett.” Congrats to Producer Marilyn Abad-Cardinalli for taking on the monster task of producing a weekly show. It’s no easy feat.

Special thanks to all those who responded to our call for hosts and hostess of our Garlic Fest and Hollister Rally Coverage. Get ready for some colorful coverage with local personalities!
