Dear Editor:
I hope that you will print this letter from one of my co-workers in the hope that our city planning commissioners can realize what kind of greedy giant they are willing to allow in Gilroy. If Super Wal-Mart is allowed, many hard-working people will lose their jobs and some will lost small businesses. There are many of us who are single, self-supporting mothers and fathers who have decent wages and benefits.
I have always believed that those put in office in our community were to watch over and protected the people in their community. All we are asking of the planning commission is to take into consideration the well being of our community and its working people.
I thank you for allowing me to share this story:
“I write to see if someone can help me. My name is Alejandra Salas. My problem is that in December of 2002 I went to Wal-Mart to buy a few things and as I had my children with me, they chose some candy named Mazapan. When we arrived home they ate all the Mazapan candy and discovered it was spoiled. I then went back to Wal-Mart and told them, and they told me to take the children to the hospital. I took them to the hospital, however now they don’t want to be responsible for the bill. Wal-Mart told me to contact “EL MEXICANO” because that is where the candy came from. El Mexicano told me to call another person whom I called and they were extremely rude with me. That person said that the person in charge was not there, that the person had gone to Mexico and would be gone for three to five weeks.
Now, I do not know what else to do as the hospital charges were a lot of money. I believe that since I bought the product from Wal-Mart I should not have to go talking to any one else and they should be responsible.
Thank you. I hope you can help me in this matter or give me some kind of suggestion on how to deal with this problem with Wal-Mart.”
