Mary Veronica Beresford Funk passed away at her home in Gilroy on Saturday, April 26, 2003, after a lengthy illness. She was 83.
Mary was a graduate of St. Elizabeth’s School of Nursing in Danville, Ill. Her nursing career spanned 40 years in many areas of nursing.
Her skills, compassion, kindness, and great sense of humor not only gave comfort to her patients but won her many long lasting friendships. Her last years of nursing service were at Regional Hospital in San Jose (Alexian Brothers).
Mary Veronica was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Murphy.
She is survived by her children, Robert E. Funk and wife Barbara; Diane Steman and husband Joe all of Gilroy; grandchildren Tara Fullington and husband Guy of Los Banos; Todd Funk and wife Thess of Vancover, Wash.; Sara Beresford Funk of Gilroy; Joel and Jon Steman of Gilroy; great-grandchildren Zachary and Madison Fullington and Tyce and Tyobe Funk. She is also survived by her brother Thomas and wife Pinky of Denver, Colorado and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Saturday at noon for family and friends in Our Lady’s Chapel at St. Mary’s Church.
In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate memorial donations to St. Joseph’s Family Center, 7950 Church street, Gilroy, CA 95020.
