GILROY – Even with giving away the top three diving results, the Gilroy High boys swim team claimed nine first-place finishes out of 11 races to defeat neighboring rival Live Oak by a 96-82 margin in Wednesday’s league meet at home.

The Mustangs’ 200 medley relay team touched first with a time of 1:50.93 to edge two Acorns’ units as well as winning the 400 freestyle relay in 3:41.7, while sophomores Lee Walton in 2:04.68 and Nick Van Winkle in 2:06.01 were the top-two finishers in the 200 freestyle.

In the girls varsity meet, the Lady Mustangs hung tough against the T-CAL’s top-ranked Acorns – but dropped a 108-75 decision.
