Fleta “Dickie” Elder died Friday, Feb. 25, 2005 in Gilroy after a lengthy illness. She was 91.

Mrs. Elder was a native of Four Acre, Okla., and moved to California as a young girl. She had a love for dancing, traveling throughout Europe and the United States, and was a volunteer at Wheeler Hospital. She was a Gilroy school bus driver for 21 years. After her retirement, she devoted her life to her family and friends. She was known as a woman who easily became friends with everyone she met.

She was the loving wife of Maurice “Red” Elder of Gilroy; loving mother of Robert Stuckey of Nevada City; stepmother of Linda Garcia and her husband Bob of Gilroy, Donna Beckenhauer and her husband Lon of Gilroy, Charlie Elder and his wife Betty of Cupertino, and Mike Elder and his wife Rosemary of Bullhead City, Ariz.; grandmother of Greg and Pita Elder, Cathy and Andy Watt, Roland, Ryan, Adrienne and Desiree Elder Danielle and Greg Poncetta, Nicole and Brian Kelly, and Jeff, Jené and Melissa Garcia; and great-grandmother of 11. She has three brothers and one sister, plus many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at Linda and Bob Garcia’s home, 100 Cohansey Ave. in Gilroy, on Saturday, March 5, 2005 at 2pm. Her friends and family are invited to celebrate her long and beautiful life.

The family would appreciate donations to the Alzheimer’s Association in lieu of flowers.
