Should the Council vote to close City Hall to the public on non-furlough Fridays so employees can get their work done?

â– Nope. We ARE their work. I know it’s tough with reductions in personnel. What do other people do? We come in on weekends, work at home, stay late at night. Since they are not open on weekends nor evenings, the public needs that Friday.
â– No. There is already a loss of service on furlough days. They need to be open to the public on regular work days as much as possible.
Prioritization will take care of the work load if they do it well.
â– No. Aren’t we the reason why they are at work? Any job that serves the public needs to put them first, and they must find time to do the other parts of their jobs without inconveniencing their customers.
â– Absolutely not. Staff will just have to do what all of us in the private sector do, prioritization and extra effort! We are all suffering the demands of the economic cutbacks. I think the public will understand taking a little longer to get a permit or some services, but they won’t accept a closure to presumably catch up.
â– No. They are like spoiled children! Nose to the grindstone and get it done … enough already!
â– NO. Just a plain bad option to create all kinds of ill-will for the public.
â– No. I am pretty confident their workload has significantly decreased over the past couple of years with the reduced development in Gilroy. If they want to take some time for customer service training, I could support that.

â– The public needs access to employees sometime to do their business. Maybe designate certain days for developers and others to be able to go to City Hall.
■No, we have all adjusted to cutbacks – state offices are not closing the doors to make up for furlough days.
â– Sure why not! In fact, why don’t we get the police to bring coffee and donuts over to them on those tough-to-manage non-furlough days … On second thought, when have time or budget over been ever been factors for customer public service? I hereby withdraw my previous suggestion for donuts!
â– Nope. If the employees are there, the government stays open.
â– I think that is a great idea. We get so much more work done when there are no interruptions.
