Legends Bar & Grill, the once popular downtown sports bar and late night lounge in Morgan Hill is closed.
The bar and restaurant that has hosted diners, revelers and football fans on Monterey Street since early 2008 served its last customers New Year’s Eve, and has been closed since Jan. 1, according to co-owner Shauna St. Cloud.
St. Cloud and Legends employees were at the restaurant Tuesday afternoon cleaning and moving. They declined to comment on why the establishment closed, and did not indicate future plans.
In the first few months it was open, Legends and the outdoor areas surrounding it were the site of a number of police calls involving allegedly intoxicated patrons who became involved in fights or other public nuisances when they left the bar, especially late at night.
However, calls have dropped off in recent months, according to police activity reports. Legends owners and staff have indicated that the bar’s role in the disturbances was exaggerated by the residents and misrepresented in media reports.
The two-level space in the building on the 17300 block of Monterey Road served a full lunch and dinner menu, and was also popular among Sunday morning football fans.
The owner of the building, Dave Scaffone, did not immediately return a phone call.
