SAN JOSE – A 22-1 drubbing of Evergreen has the Gilroy Little League girls softball Minors All-Stars one win away from a District 59 championship.
Emily Fredricks, Juliana Santiago and Maria Sandoval combined to surrender just one-hit over a mercy-rule shortened affair, striking out 11 in the process.
Sandoval also had three doubles, Olivia Moore produced three base hits and Santiago had two hits. The team unloaded for 16 hits in the game.
The championship game is scheduled for Wednesday against either the same Evergreen team or East Hills.
The winner advances to the state tournament, which begins Saturday in Concord.
