softball team traveled to Turlock and outscored opponents 59-15 in
five games over two days to take second place at the Turlock
Tournament.
Gilroy – After hitting the snooze button a couple of times after a 3:30am wake-up call Saturday, the 10-and-under Gilroy Chaos softball team traveled to Turlock and outscored opponents 59-15 in five games over two days to take second place at the Turlock Tournament.
In their second tournament of the year without starter Casey Lester, the Chaos went undefeated in dominant fashion the first day of the tournament with a 15-2 win over the Tracy All-Stars and an 11-4 win over Tracy Extreme. On the mound and earning wins in the first two games was Celeste M. Jimenez, who also drove in three runs at the plate. Against the Tracy All-Stars, Alex Zamaripa had a perfect day in the batter’s box, going 3-for-3 with three RBIs and Ashlee Williams belted a triple. Shawntee “Big Dog” Garcia smacked two doubles and a single for three RBIs against the Tracy Extreme.
With her team on a roll, pitcher Kaylana Mah allowed just three hits in the Chaos’ third win of the day over the Ceres Sizzle. Mah was backed up by the offense of Alley Olvera (2-for-2, 2 runs, 2 RBIs) and Angelica Carrillo, who hit her first double.
On Sunday, it was a different day but similar outcome as the Chaos opened with another win over the Sizzle, a 14-1 thrashing, which earned them a spot in the championship game. Williams came alive at the plate again, blasting a home run while going 3-for-3 with three RBIs and three runs. Garcia pounded two more doubles, one of which cleared the bases. She tallied five RBIs in the game.
In the championship game, the Chaos fell 6-7 to the Tracy Express.
