Christopher tops MVC in home finale
The Cougars played their final home game of the regular season Thursday and they went out with a bang.Â
Christopher blanked Monte Vista Christian 1-0, improving to 4-3-4 in league play.Â

The Cougars (5-7-4 overall) will close out the regular season at 5:45 p.m. Feb. 19 at Seaside.Â
Mustangs drop third straight
Gilroy lost its third straight game, falling 4-2 at North Monterey County Thursday.Â
The Condors took a 2-0 lead into halftime and the Mustangs answered with two scores after the break. Unfortunately for Gilroy, so did NMC.Â
Jaime Silva and Efren Pineda each scored a goal for the Mustangs. Ronnie Cardoza and David Solarzano both assisted on the scores.Â
The Mustangs (6-11 overall, 3-8 in league) will play at 5:45 p.m. Tuesday in Salinas.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Cougars fall to Cowboys
Christopher lost 66-55 to Salinas Wednesday on the road.Â

The Cougars trailed 12-6 after the first quarter and posted 21 points in the second. The Cowboys scored 20 of their own, to lead 32-27 at the half and they never looked back.Â
Every game is crucial for the Cougars as they look to secure their spot in the Central Coast Section playoffs. They will host Seaside at 7 p.m. tonight for their regular season home finale.Â
Vikings best Gilroy
A big first quarter from North Salinas put Gilroy in a hole it just couldn’t climb out of and the Mustangs inevitably fell 59-41 at home Wednesday.Â
The Vikings outscored Gilroy 19-8 in the first quarter. The Mustangs fought back and posted 10 in the second, but found themselves trailing 34-18 at the break.Â
Gilroy outscored Salinas 13-11 in the third, but it wasn’t enough to lift them to a win.Â
Michael Kropff led the Mustangs with 12 points. Justin Soseman and Zach Mata both added six and Pedro Tapia scored five.Â
Gilroy (4-17 overall, 2-7 in league) will play at 7 p.m. tonight at Everett Alvarez.
GIRLS SOCCER
Cougars tie with Eagles
Christopher took on Everett Alvarez Wednesday, but neither could find the back of the net.Â
The teams settled for a scoreless tie at Christopher High. It’s the Cougars’ first draw of the season.
Christopher (6-9-1 overall, 4-5-1 in league) has just two games left in the regular season. It will host San Benito at 5:45 p.m. Wednesday and will close out the season at the same time at Gilroy on Feb. 20.Â
Mustangs fall to Alisal
Gilroy lost 3-0 to Alisal Wednesday on the road.Â
The Spartans scored a goal in the first and added two in the second.Â
Gilroy will host Notre Dame at 5:45 p.m. today.
