Prep Football: Gilroy, Christopher fall in Week 6

SALINAS—Things didn’t go as planned for Gilroy or Christopher Friday as both teams left Salinas with a loss. The Mustangs fell 21-7 to Alisal, while the Cowboys sent the Cougars home with a 41-7 loss.
Neither team could get on the scoreboard until the fourth quarter. The Cougars notched their lone score with 5:50 left to play. Gilroy’s touchdown came in its game’s final minutes. 
Alisal and Gilroy both missed field goals in the first quarter. The home team then scored twice before halftime and shut the door with another TD in the third.
Salinas built a 20-0 lead over Christopher at halftime. The Cowboys didn’t slow down after the break either. They tallied three more touchdowns in third. That’s all Salinas would get as they were held scoreless in the fourth quarter. 
Stats for both teams were not immediately available. 
The Cougars (1-4 overall, 0-2 in league) will host Gilroy (2-3 overall, 1-1 in league) for the annual Severance Bowl at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 16. It’s the first time the game with be played at Christopher High.
