The Oakwood High School boys basketball team completed its challenging preseason, with a 70-52 win over visiting Scotts Valley High School Saturday night. Oakwood senior, Nate Schilling, just recently signed with Southern Virginia University to play basketball starting next year.
Oakwood finishes its nonleague season with an overall 9-5 record. Each of Oakwood’s preseason games came against schools that were mainly Division 1 or Division 2 schools.
In the Scotts Valley game, Schilling and Youssef Eshra lead the way with 19 points apiece.
Justin Mortensen chipped in with 13 points and 17 rebounds.
Miles Batey and Evan Richards also had strong all-around games for the Hawks of Oakwood.
Oakwood took a real step forward this nonleague season when it traveled to East San Jose and played the Number One Ranked Division One team in Piedmont Hills. This game went down to the very end before Piedmont Hills defeated Oakwood by the final score of 54-51.
During their preseason run, the Hawks won the championship of the Gilroy High School’s Bob Hagen Tournament and won the consolation championship at the Kings Academy Tournament.
Oakwood also played at the Oracle Arena, in the High School Showcase game and defeated Overfelt 54-34.
The Hawks start their league run with a home game Friday night at 7 p.m. against Pacific Collegiate.
