Raises for county executive, staff

San Jose – A modest raise for Santa Clara County Executive Pete Kutras Jr. was approved Tuesday by the Board of Supervisors.

Kutras’ salary will grow by 4 percent next year, to $232,575. The other 158 employees in the office will receive an average 3 percent raise. Supervisor Don Gage said the salary still puts Kutras below his colleagues in comparable counties.

“For the job Pete is doing, this raise is well-deserved,” Gage said. “We’ve had significant budget problems and he’s getting them resolved. He’s done an outstanding job.”

The Executive office acts in support of the Supervisors and other county agencies. It’s responsible for juggling the budget and ensuring implementation of legislation and Board policy.

This is the first raise the office has received since December 2002.
