What we have is a political appointee postmaster (assumed)
making a decision on a knee-jerk reaction to a problem.

The controversy over whether or not to dismount and deliver the mail seems to me to miss the point.
What we have is a political appointee postmaster (assumed) making a decision on a knee-jerk reaction to a problem. Then realizing that the decision is very unpopular and most likely wrong and reversing it. Now here is the red herring to throw us off – a carrier who pushed a can out of the way to reach the box. The real concern should be the management ability of the postmaster not the carrier that tried to carry out her job under duress. She now faces firing or suspension. When management makes bad decisions and employees try to cover for them and still get the job done the employee shouldn’t suffer. I just pushed a shopping cart aside with my truck. It’s no big deal.
Next, when a carrier exits a truck to walk 10 feet to a box it is not necessary to roll the windows up and lock the truck for the 10 to 15 seconds that they are out. When leaving long enough to no longer be in control of the truck, then lock it.
Doesn’t anyone have any common sense anymore?
