Murphy nets 22 points in 75-57 home loss to Dons in Gavilan’s
home finale
GILROY – The Gavilan College women’s basketball team battled in its last home game of the season on Wednesday night, coming up short to De Anza College, 75-57.

The Lady Rams made it an exciting game for the fans throughout the contest. After trailing 36-27 at halftime, Gavilan scored the first eight points of the second half to make the score 36-35. With 11 minutes remaining, Gavilan was within three points, 49-46.

Sophomore guard Sabrina Murphy led the Lady Rams in scoring with 22 points, 16 of those coming in the first half. Freshman point guard Cynthia Pinto chipped in with 17 points. Sophomore Nicole Donley and freshman Lacey Byers scored six points each; freshman Jenn Tremblay scored four and freshman Carolyn Beatty added 2 points.

“We played hard and put up a good fight. The game was closer than the final score indicated,” head coach Mike Girardi said. “It was nice to honor our three sophomores, Lacey Byers, Nicole Donley, and Sabrina Murphy, before their final home game. Their efforts this season are greatly appreciated as are those of the three freshmen.”

The Lady Rams are now 11-10 overall and 3-5 in conference, and are alone in fourth place in the six-team conference. Gavilan’s final game of the season will be Friday, February 20, at City College of San Francisco at 5:30 p.m.
