Born May 16, 1941, in Crystal City, Texas, she was raised in Gilroy and attended local schools. She had recently moved to the Fresno area to be closer to her daughter and 8-year-old granddaughter. She suffered a fatal heart attack while attending the county fair with her granddaughter.

Mrs. Herrera enjoyed country music, especially George Strait. She also enjoyed cooking for her nephews and nieces, and was along time fan of the Raiders and Oakland A’s.

She leaves behind her daughters, Denise Herrera, Evelyn Salinas; her beloved granddaughter, Skylar Herrera Owens; sisters, Minerva Amezcua, Elisha Henson, May Ozuna, Susan Prieto; and two brothers Alecio and Pat DeLeon of Gilroy; as well as several nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband Richard Herrera of Watsonville; parents Andres and Juanita DeLeon of Gilroy’ and her brother Gilbert DeLeon of San Jose.

A private celebration of her life will be held by the family. The family would appreciate donations be made in her memory to a trust fund setup for her beloved granddaughter through Washington Mutual Bank, Skylar Lea Herrera Owens, account number 337 647 283 -2.
