Dear Editor:

Wow!!! Dennis Taylor I must of have “pushed a major button” with you to devote most of your column to blasting me. Let’s get a few things straight: first of all I did misspeak I did not mean to say that I speak for all Catholics, I was just giving a perspective from a devout Catholic who has had 12 years of Catholic schooling. As a matter of fact I even mentioned that I “lost touch with my chosen religion,” but my faith never wavered.

I also will apologize for implying you are a moron, and you likened that comment to a “what would Jesus do?” attitude. I am, as all people are, not perfect, I try to be Christlike, but as you pointed out I sometimes will resort to name calling and that is not right. Maybe you should try to stop name calling Dennis. I am sure that the “Archie Bunker Boys” would like that.

However, I was offended when you said I reduced “gays to second class citizens” and that I am against interracial marriages, all because of my religion. Well, well, I am amazed that you know me so well because of my religion. Do you judge all people by their religion? How about ethnic background? Or maybe how they look? Or what kind of car they drive? I don’t.

I look at all people as equals. I look at their heart. I observe. I converse. I see how they feel, and how they treat their fellow man. Then I decide if “this is this a person I want to hang out with?” I personally, put my family above everything. And I feel that my religion is part of my family. I know there are good and bad people, there are even good and bad liberals, and Republicans, as well as religious people. I really don’t see myself grouped into either political party, because there are things I like and dislike about both

I, as I said in my letter, don’t loath you” and will always turn the other cheek as my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ teaches me to do. Dennis I just felt that you where grouping all religions, and that is not fair to my chosen religion. You even said yourself that you did not know that Catholics were on the religious right. But you did not say what religions are on the religious right. I will not stand still and listen to anyone who says I think gay people are bad or evil because of their sexual preference.

I had a good laugh at your expense when I read your column to my wife and her sister who is visiting us from out of town and who are non-Caucasian, since of course I am against interracial marriage. I am not an “unwitting casualty of a cultural war.” I am a man who strives for the truth that considers all options, and makes educated choices.

On a final note my name is William, not Bill or Flow. Bill is reserved for people, who are my friends, and unfortunately I don’t know you well enough to be my friend. Maybe some day we meet at a local restaurant or store, and we can have a conversation, then maybe you will be able to call me Bill.

William J. Flow, Gilroy
