GILROY — This Sunday at the Summer Music Series, fans can expect a little more than singing and dancing. Ritmo, the Santana tribute band scheduled to play, will videotape their show.
“It’s something we’re really excited about,” said Music Series organizer Cathy Mirelez.
The series has existed for more than 26 years, and this is the first time that a concert has been formally taped. Bassist Chris Gallego contacted her to coordinate the taping.
Gallego started Ritmo, which is the Spanish word for rhythm, in Nov. 2000, after he said that he was “inspired” to start a Santana tribute band.
“It’s a cultural melting pot,” Gallego says about Santana’s music. “All different types of people enjoy his music.”

Ritmo will also bring out a special guest to their concert this year. Scotts Valley resident Alysha Antonino, who Gallego describes as an “up-and-coming recording artist” will perform guest vocals on Michelle Branch’s hit “The Game of Love.”
Yet another treat the band has planned for concert-goers is free merchandise. Ritmo will bring about 50 copies of their CD and give them away to audience members.
The concert runs from 5 to 7 p.m. in the Christmas Hill Amphitheater. Admission is free, and the series organization will provide snacks for attendees.
“Its just a fun evening for families,” Mirelez said. “Lots of people get out and dance.”
