Dear Editor,

Thanks to The Dispatch for an excellent article on The Gilroy Historical Society’s 1923 Seagraves fire engine. Megan Steven’s research and writing and Max Morse’s photography are great and they were delightful to work with. By putting Gilroyans in touch with reminders of our past, you help keep us connected and working together as a community.

The Society wants to acknowledge the generosity and helpfulness of Doug Franklin, Jim Currier’s Flowstar Company, Eric Anninger’s Automotive Museum, and Dale & Cheryl Boomgaarden’s Gilroy Car Care in storing and repairing the Seagraves.

Marx Towing, Bracco’s Towing, and All-Pro Towing each were very generous in transporting the engine to public events. Thanks also to Ralph Santos for his offer of storage space, and to these who have given direction and advice and, I am sure, are ready to give more: George Azevedo, Sig Sanchez, Josh Weggeland, Roy Shackle, Andy Holiday, Will Radcliffe, Bob Winter, and Mel Phipps.

Phill Laursen, Gilroy
