Francisca V. “Paca” Chapa died at her home in Los Banos, Wednesday, July 21, 2004, after a lengthy battle with cancer.

She was 71.

A native of Linares, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, Mrs. Chapa moved to Raymondville, Texas as a child and lived there until 1952. In 1956 she moved to Gilroy then moved to Los Banos seven years ago.

She is a past member of St. Mary’s Church (volunteering for Friendship Sunday’s), Gilroy and the Guadalupana Association in Gilroy. She also participated in the Relay for Life in Gilroy/Los Banos. She enjoyed music and dancing while being the life of the party.

She enjoyed entertaining people in her home with her cooking. She gave strength and support to not just her family but everyone. She loved to shop, for others not herself.

Mrs. Chapa is the loving wife of 57 years to Manuel M. Chapa of Los Banos; daughter of the late Alicia “Ama” Vega, mother of Manuel V. Chapa and his wife Dianne of Los Banos, Janie Herrera and her husband Cruz of San Juan Bautista, Henry Chapa and his wife, Juana “Curly” of Los Banos, Yolanda Garza and her husband Eloy of Shafter, Adolfo Chapa of Los Banos, Andy Garza and his wife, Tina of Los Banos and Erma Catalan and her husband Gino of Los Banos; sister of Josefina Garza of Los Banos; grandmother of 21; great-grandmother of 30; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be held from noon to 5 p.m., Monday July 26, 2004, at Habing Family Funeral Home, Gilroy.

A vigil will follow at 7 p.m. at St. Mary Church, Gilroy.

Funeral services will begin at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 27, 2004, at the funeral home, then proceed to the church for Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Gilroy.
