Fortino Winery Fiesta
GILROY – Fortino Winery, 4525 Hecker Pass Highway, will host “Spring Dinner” at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 8. Cost is $40 all-inclusive.

Mother’s Day Dinner Dance
GILROY – Las Rosita’s Club is sponsoring “Mother’s Day Dinner Dance – Fiesta Tardiada” on Saturday, May 8 at the Gilroy Senior Center, 7371 Hanna St.

Coyote Valley Workshop
GILROY – The Coyote Valley Specific Plan Task Force and Community Workshop will be held on Saturday, May 15 at the Southside Community Center, 5595 Cottle Road, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The workshop will involve land use and urban form concepts for the Coyote Valley Specific Plan.
Task Force co-chairs, Mayor Ron Gonzales and Forrest Williams will be present. The public is encouraged to attend.

Fun for the disabled
GILROY – Gilroy Community Services Therapeutic Recreation presents “Friends and Family Fun Fest” on May 22, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Las Animas Veterans Park.
The event is for the developmentally disabled to take part in a fun and social environment. Event includes limited carnival games, unlimited jump houses and games, lunch and a T-shirt.

Race for a cure
GILROY – Gilroy’s “Race For A Cure – 10K Race and 5K Race/Fun Walk” will be held Saturday, May 15, at Christmas Hill Park’s Ranch Site.
Proceeds from the event will benefit the American Cancer Society’s Gilroy Relay For Life.

Blood Drive
GILROY – The American Red Cross will hold a community blood drive on Wednesday, May 19, at First Baptist Church, 8455 Wren Ave., from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
In May, the American Red Cross is trying to build a large reserve of blood for an expected drop-off in the summer due to donor vacations.

GILROY – Chitactac-Adams County Park, located at the intersection of Watsonville and Burchell roads, will conduct “Wildlife Sensory Awareness” from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 21.

Robot wars
GILROY – Sacbots presents “The Gilroy Bot Gauntlet” at noon on Saturday, May 22, at Hobby World, 6901 Monterey Road.

SV Symphony with Mariachi
GILROY – The South Valley Symphony has invited the popular and talented Mariachi Santa Cecelia to appear with them at the Gavilan College Theater on Saturday, May 22, at 7:30 p.m. This is the first time conductor Henry Mollicone has performed with a Mariachi ensemble during his musical career.
Also appearing with the orchestra will be guitarist/composer Rick Vandivier. His performances have been described as daring, soulful and evocative. His recent appearance in the Bach to Blues concert on April 23 at the Gavilan College Theater was warmly received.
Mariachi Santa Cecelia was formed in 1995 and has performed throughout Santa Clara County.
They are a very popular weekly attraction at the Berryessa Flea Market in San Jose and are a highly entertaining group. This marks the final concert of the season for the symphony so get your tickets early.
See those ‘Guys and Dolls’
MORGAN HILL – South Valley Civic Theatre presents “Guys and Dolls,” a musical fable of Broadway, on May 7, 8, 14, 15, 16, 21, 22, 23, 28 and 29 at 8 p.m., at the Morgan Hill Community Playhouse, located at Fifth and Monterey streets.
This comedy features characters from mission evangelists to nightclub showgirls to desperate gamblers.

Final bird walk
MORGAN HILL – The last bird walk of the spring hosted by the Wildlife Education and Rehabilitation Center (WERC) will be on Saturday, May 8, from 9 to 11 a.m.
Jane Haley, a National Park Service docent for 20 years and WERC volunteer, will lead the hike along Coyote Creek and teach about the local birds, their habitat and ecological importance.
Due to rough terrain, young children are not recommended to attend.
The event is free, but space is limited so reservations are required.
