Gilroy – The phrase “Ladies’ Night” may conjure images of sequins and disco lights. But car maintenance?
For Gilroy Chevrolet Cadillac, it means that and more, after the launch of its first ever “Ladies’ Night Out” Tuesday.
The ladies of Gilroy were invited to the dealership for what will become a monthly gathering geared toward entertaining and educating the fairer sex.
The dealership played host to a group of 30 to 35 women who were taught self-defense, treated to massages and chocolate, and shown how to change a tire.
“Everybody was very enthusiastic about it,” said Sheila Martin, owner of Gilroy Chevrolet Cadillac. “I think it was a success.”
For those who want to mark their calendars for the next “Ladies’ Night Out,” it will fall on the second Tuesday of each month, from 7 to 8:30 in the evening.
A concept of General Manager Gary Lewis, the dealership is also attracting women on a weekly basis, hosting “Ladies’ Day” every Tuesday, when women receive discounts on repairs and parts.
Martin said she is excited to help more women feel comfortable with their cars and with dealerships in general.
“It’s that in part, and it’s also doing something for women in the community,” she said. “They get a massage, they get out of the house, their husband watched the kids, they get free chocolate and I give out door prizes.”
The monthly “Ladies’ Night” will always include a topic of interest that isn’t car-related, plus an automotive how-to lesson. On Tuesday, the guests received a 30 minute self-defense seminar from Master Fong’s dojo of San Jose before receiving complimentary massages from Mind Body & Spirit Therapeutic Massage of Gilroy.
For the how-to lesson, Service Manager Bill Reiff and two technicians taught the ladies how to change a flat tire.
“That’s just another resource for women,” said Martin, who has owned the dealership since last Dec. 9.
The theme will change each month, Lewis said. Ladies who visit in the future may learn about pre-natal care or credit scores, and learn about automotive financing or other service topics.
On each “Ladies’ Day” Tuesday, women who service their cars or buy parts or accessories get a 10 percent discount. And if they come between the hours of 11am and 2pm, they can get a free massage, on a first-come, first-serve basis.
