Friends and family are mourning the loss of San Martin resident Shannon O’Keefe, who died in a motorcycle accident in South San Jose March 16.
O’Keefe, 57, was pronounced dead shortly after police arrived to the scene of the accident near the intersection of Monterey Road and Bailey Avenue shortly before 5 p.m., according to the San Jose Police Department.
Friends of O’Keefe’s who live in Morgan Hill described him as a warm, happy man who always greeted and said goodbye to people with hugs.
“He’s my buddy. I loved him,” Morgan Hill resident Bob Matts said, who met O’Keefe about 15 years ago through his landlord. “He would give his shirt off his back. He had the best smile and laugh. The first thing he would do (when he saw me) is come up and give me a hug.”
He worked the last few years as a handyman, according to his closese worked the last few years as a handyman, according to Matts.
O’Keefe’s motorcycle possibly collided with another motorcycle, causing his motorcycle to crash, according to San Jose Police Sgt. Albert Morales. O’Keefe was pronounced dead at the scene about 5 p.m.
The accident remained under investigation as of press time.
