The Gilroy Police Department made arrests for a variety of crimes this week, including attempted murder, sexual battery, kidnapping and possession of methamphetamine for sale. Arrests were recorded in the GPD blotter between Aug. 14 and 21.
Attempted murder
-Gustavo Cortez, 21, Aug. 19 at 3:10 p.m. near the intersection of Church Street and Southgate Court for one felony charge and felony re-arrest for a probation violation.
Kidnapping
-Steven Ortez, 30, Aug. 20 at 5:40 p.m. on the 500 block of Lewis Street for one felony charge and a felony charge of infliction bodily injury on a spouse or cohabitant.
Sex crimes
-Jacob Campos, 19, Aug. 16 at 6:35 a.m. on the 7600 block of Los Padres Court for felony sexual penetration with a foreign object on an unconscious victim and sexual battery.
Possession of meth for sale
-Israel Chapa, 33, Aug. 16 at 1:10 p.m. near the intersection of First and Church streets for one felony charge, resisting, delaying or obstructing a police officer, destroying or concealing evidence and felony parole hold.
Grand theft of personal property
-Manuel Marin, 31, Aug. 16 at 12:45 a.m. on an undisclosed segment of Las Animas Avenue for two felony charges and selling or aiding in the sale of stolen property.
Inflicting bodily injury on a spouse or cohabitant
-Efrain Lynn, 26, Aug. 16 at 12:58 p.m. on the 400 block of Kennedy Court for one felony charge.
-Shawn Morris, 45, Aug. 16 at 9:49 p.m. on the 8000 block of Monterey Street.
Battery against a spouse, cohabitant or friend
-Matthew Aguilar, 27, Aug. 16 at 11:24 p.m. on the 1000 block of Montebello Drive for one misdemeanor charge.
-Tito Hernandez, 34, Aug. 17 at 3:42 p.m. on the 500 block of Polk Avenue for four charges and felony possession of a controlled substance.
Exhibiting a deadly weapon
-Luis Cavazos, 39, Aug. 18 at 11:13 p.m. near the intersection of Forest and Martin streets for one misdemeanor charge and resisting, delaying or obstructing a police officer.
Multiple charges
-Rikki Martinez, 35, Aug. 14 at 2:01 a.m. near the intersection of Monterey and First Street for felony possession of a controlled substance for sale, felony transportation of a controlled substance for sale and possession of a controlled substance.
-Jose Preciado, 28, Aug. 18 at 4:50 p.m. on an undisclosed segment of Church Street for felony possession of marijuana or hash for sale, a felony charge of obstructing or resisting an executive officer, resisting, delaying or obstructing a police officer, hit and run, driving with a BAC of .08 or higher, driving with privileges suspended or revoked and hit and run.
Parole hold
-James Frausto, 31, Aug. 21 at 9 a.m. on the 5500 block of Monterey Street for one felony charge.
Possession of a controlled substance
-Roderick Norman, 51, Aug. 16 at 5:11 p.m. on the 700 block of First Street for one felony charge, being under the influence of alcohol, drugs or a controlled substance, unlawful possession of paraphernalia and possession of marijuana.
-William Weddingfeld, 49, Aug. 21 at 3 p.m. on the 500 block of First Street for two charges and use or being under the influence of a controlled substance.
Possession of a narcotic controlled substance
-Isaac Sanchez, 28, Aug. 18 at 1:48 p.m. on the 1700 block of Miller Avenue for one felony charge and an outstanding felony warrant for processing as a parole violator for revocation.
Transporting/selling a narcotic controlled substance
-Rodolfo Hill, 37, Aug. 16 at 6:12 p.m. near the intersection of Murray Avenue and Leavesley Road for one felony charge, felony possession of a narcotic controlled substance and driving with privileges suspended or revoked.
Possession of a controlled substance for sale
-Davin Franco, 21, Aug. 16 at 9:30 p.m. near the intersection of Mimosa Drive and Tea Tree Way for one felony charge, contributing to the delinquency of a minor and driving with privileges suspended or revoked.
-Phyllis Candalaria, 50, Aug. 20 at 12:10 a.m. near the intersection of Monterey and Seventh streets for one felony charge and trespass.
Driving under the influence
-Gustavo Amaro, 34, Aug. 15 at 2:38 a.m. near the intersection of Old Gilroy and Chestnut streets for DUI, driving with a blood-alcohol level of .08 or higher and driving while unlicensed.
-Benoni Sotomayor, 28, Aug. 15 at 12:45 a.m. near the intersection of Hanna Street and Welburn Avenue for DUI, driving with a BAC of .08 or higher and driving while unlicensed.
-Irma DeVillarreal, 36, Aug. 15 at 11:43 p.m. on the 7500 block of Arroyo Circle for DUI.
-Darcey Connell, 53, Aug. 16 at 12:47 a.m. near the intersection of Railroad and Martin streets for DUI, driving with a BAC of .08 or higher and driving while unlicensed.
Violation of a protective order
-Mike Bryce, 49, Aug. 13 at 11:51 p.m. on the 300 block of Leavesley Road for one misdemeanor charge and giving a false name to a police offer.
Under the influence of alcohol, drugs or a controlled substance
-Dianne Hightower, 60, Aug. 15 at 8:11 p.m. on the 8600 block of Lilly Avenue.
-Martin Estrada, 47, Aug. 18 at 12:15 a.m. on the 7400 block of Monterey Street.
-Jose Gonzalez, 60, Aug. 18 at 4:16 p.m. on the 1700 block of Mantelli Drive.
Under the influence of a controlled substance
-Allen Silhanek, 21, Aug. 17 at 9:05 a.m. near the intersection of Rosanna and Seventh streets for one misdemeanor charge and possession of a hypodermic needle.
Possession of alcohol by someone under 21
-Olivia Trevino, 19, Aug. 15 at 11 p.m. on the 6300 block of Berrybush Court.
Drinking in public
-Mary Gracia, 53, Aug. 19 at 2:40 p.m. on the 7800 block of Carmel Street.
-Peter Craighead, 49, Aug. 19 at 2:46 p.m. on the 7800 block of Carmel Street.
-Jose Santa Maria, 40, Aug. 20 at 8 a.m. on the 6900 block of Monterey Street.
Driving violations
-Miguel Onofre Torres, 35, Aug. 14 at 11:28 a.m. at the Gilroy Police station for driving with privileges suspended or revoked.
-Jose Rojas Zarco, 21, Aug. 16 at 11 p.m. on the 6900 block of Chestnut Street for driving with privileges suspended or revoked and using a cell phone while driving.
-Michael Stewart, 35, Aug. 18 at 9:40 a.m. at the Gilroy Police station for driving with privileges suspended, driving without due caution and having a defective windshield or window.
