MORGAN HILL — Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero will be hosting a fundraiser Sunday to help raise money for Gilroy’s Caley Camarillo in her fight against Cystic Fibrosis.
Guerrero has gathered together sports memorabilia from across the sports world, including items from Mike Tyson, Sugar Ray Leonard, Floyd Mayweather, Vernon Davis and Maurice Jones Drew, to help raise $10,000.
The fundraiser is 1-5 p.m. Sunday at Morgan Hill Cellars. The cost is $25, which will cover appetizers and entry into a raffle to win some of the memorabilia. There will also be a silent auction.
There will also be a liver performance by Isaiah Picket.
Tickets can be reserved by calling Maria Cid (408) 500-9426. Some tickets may be available for purchase at the door.
Cid said she has received donations from a local Mexican bakery as well as pasta to serve at the event.
Caley, 12, was diagnosed with CF as an infant and has battled the disease, which makes it increasingly harder for her to breathe. The family tried to get her on a lung transplant list, but was denied as her doctor told the family she wouldn’t survive the surgery.
The Camarillo family is now trying to raise money to get Caley to a different hospital for a second opinion.
Guerrero, who has grown up with Caley’s father Martin and runs a gym with Martin’s brother, knew he had to step up and help.
“It’s one of those things that you just step up and do as a friend and family member,” Guerrero said.
Guerrero said Caley’s father is a strong man who has shouldered this fight for a long time and how it’s time for the whole family to be relieved of some of that burden.
“Being a pro fighter, one things you want to have is a clear mind and you want to be able to focus on what got to do,” Guerrero said. “For Martin, it’s a fight for him. Truly, it’s a fight.”
Guerrero said he is donating some things from his own collection as well as items he got donated for the event.
He said he hopes the South Valley community is able to come out en masse to support one of its own.
“It’s going to be a great event,” Guerrero said. “I hope to see everyone come out and show their support.”
