Despite scoring three late runs, the Christopher softball team held off Salinas and picked up a much needed league win Thursday.
The Cougars topped Salinas 8-7 to improve to 14-6 overall and 3-4 in league play.
Nikki Villanueva picked up two RBIs off two hits with a run scored and a double. Mackenzie Holt got the ‘W’ in the circle, allowing seven runs on 10 hits while walking seven and striking out one.
Christopher grabbed an early 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first, but it was short lived. The Cowboys answered with four runs in the top of the second to lead, but the Cougars drove in the equalizer in the bottom half of the inning.
Christopher scored another in the bottom of the fourth and three more in the bottom of the fifth, which proved to be enough to win as the Cowboys would rack up three more runs over the sixth and seventh innings.
The Cougars (14-6 overall, 3-4 in league) will play at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at North Salinas.Â
