DEAR EDITOR:
Gilroy has TWO Adult Forum Clubs? One may be scarier than you think!
I have enjoyed reading the various letters printed over the last weeks in which a variety of authors have filled the pages of The Dispatch and the Council Chamber rooms with the drumbeat of their own brand of morality and holy behaviors. Once again these Gilroy guardian angels are attempting to spoon feed their fundamental moral rhetoric to everyone within reading and hearing distance.
Gilroy started out with the Adult Alternative Lifestyle Club (The Forum), which has been publicly and legally harassed out of our hallowed city limits. However, it seems that it may have been replaced by another “Adult Forum Club” in which the word “alternative” (meaning choice) has been deliberately left out of its title.
This “adult club” seeks: 1) members that believe in “their way or the highway” brand of morality 2) believes that ALL human beings believe in “the absolute lawgiver,” the 10 commandments, and Divine Law, 3) no deviation from this brand of spiritualism is allowed, accepted, or is believed to exist. This new club wants everyone to believe the same and the founding members are Tom Springer, Cynthia Walker, James Fennell, Alan Viarengo, etc.
Which adult club is scarier? The one that is open to consenting adults of divergent lifestyle attitudes and behaviors, or the one that is trying to tell everyone what to think, how to act, and what “higher authority” governs our lives?
Lastly, if only Mayor Springer, Councilman Craig Gartman, and Councilman Bob Dillon would provide the same laser-focus and energy to the condition of our downtown that they did in their zeal to remove Ms. Luce’s club from Gilroy, we would have an award-winning downtown area that would make us all proud.
Kristine Dillon, Gilroy
