Carmen E. Filice, 77, passed away at home Wednesday, Nov. 13, 2002. He was a native of Gilroy.

Filice was the son of the late Carmen and Rafaella Filice; brother of Michael A. Filice and his wife Corrinne of Aptos, Julia M. Viarengo of Salinas and Marietta Filice of El Cerrito; uncle of Jeffrey Filice of Memphis, Tenn. and Deborah Anderson of Santa Cruz; and great-uncle of Sarah Anderson of New York City, Scott Anderson of Santa Cruz, Jeffrey Michael Filice of Atlanta, Ga., Christine Filice of Memphis and Patrick Filice of Memphis. He is also survived by numerous cousins in the area.

Born and raised in Gilroy, Filice graduated from Gilroy High School and was an Army Veteran of World War II – serving in the Philippines and China. After the war, he was an orchard farmer until he retired in 1970s. He was a member of St. Mary’s Church, American Legion Post #217 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Gilroy. He was well known locally in the Church Street neighborhood for his spirited driving of his motorized wheelchair.

Friends and family are invited to the visitation Friday, Nov. 15 from 2 to 6 p.m. at Habing Family Funeral Home, Gilroy. A private family Mass will be held at St. Mary’s Church with burial to follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Gilroy.
