Anchorpoint Christian’s boys basketball team stayed undefeated in the Coastal Athletic League Tuesday by beating York 76-56. The victory also served to lock up a league title, securing Anchorpoint a spot in the Central Coast Section Division V playoffs starting next week.
Shaquel Johnson and Ryan Lasondak helped get the Warriors the win with 20 points and 10 rebounds and 18 points and 15 rebounds, respectively.
The team had lost some momentum when point guard Adrian Rodriguez went down with an to injury a few weeks ago, but now that Rodriguez is back, and other players have gained experience in his stead, Anchorpoint looks to have become a more well-rounded squad, according to coach K.C. Adams.
“We’re healthy, we’re running fast, so actually, it was kind of a good thing that Adrian was out a couple games,” Adams said. “It gave a couple other guys a chance to play.”
Rodriguez had 10 points and five steals Tuesday.
The Warriors are now 16-5 overall, 11-0 in league. According to Adams, the team will attempt to go undefeated in the CAL for a third-straight year when it plays Oakwood Thursday at 7 p.m. at South Valley Middle School in Gilroy.
That contest will follow the Anchorpoint girls’ game, which will begin at 5:30 p.m.
The Lady Warriors also defeated York Tuesday, winning by a score of 58-27.
Chelsea Urbanski was the leading scorer in the contest with 34 points to go with double-figures rebounding and in assists.
“She’s playing reallly, really good because she’s healthy again,” Adams said.
Junior forward Kristian Osuna pitched in 15 points and 15 rebounds for Anchorpoint, which is now 7-11 overall, 6-6 in league.
